With the guidance of PFK staff, we explored the Kauri Glen Reserve. Throughout the journey, Lucy provided us with detailed explanations of the various native plants growing in the reserve, with a particular focus on the habitat of kauri trees and the challenges and threats they face.
Despite being a relatively small reserve located within the city, it hosts a mini-ecosystem where native plants coexist, supporting and collaborating with each other in harmony. Alongside learning to identify different native plants, we also discovered many interesting facts and gained a deeper understanding of the importance of protecting them.
At the end of the trip, each cub received a “Kauri Guardian” T-shirt as a gift from PFK.
A big thank you to PFK for their efforts and to Ding Hui, a Chinese staff member, for assisting with the organisation and translation, making this an educational and enjoyable experience for us all!
